Emmy Spencer Headshot

Emmy is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Loyal Blue’s Director of Education. She earned her undergraduate degree at Bates College and holds two master’s degrees: in Education from Stanford University, and in Counseling from CSU-East Bay.

Emmy brings an educator’s approach to therapy. She is a former high school teacher who knows how to collaborate with clients while they grown and learn. Emmy is excellent at providing information and ideas that are tailored to each client. Her insightful observations and thoughtful questions are driven by the desire to help each person learn about themselves and build tools that last beyond the therapy room.

Emmy has advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including TEAM certification from Dr. David Burns at Stanford. CBT is the best evidence-based approach for depression, anxiety, OCD, and insomnia. Emmy’s broad therapeutic skills help her support people of all ages with anxiety, depression, grief, and relationships.

Emmy’s career has been built upon her love of working with teens and college students. She understands the difficulty of navigating these important years while facing the pressures of higher education. Emmy admires the creative spirit and daring resilience of this age group. She is here to help teens feel understood and empowered.

Some of Emmy’s practice is dedicated to working with LGBTQIA+ people of all ages. She believes that we deserve to express our authentic selves and lead fulfilling lives of our own design.

As Loyal Blue’s Director of Education, Emmy provides our practice trainings to ensure we are equipped for effective therapy. She manages our client library including workbooks, homework tools, and useful interventions for between sessions. She also leads our important community efforts including with our volunteering program at UC Berkeley, and developing our talks on mental health to pediatric practices, churches, schools and workplaces.

Emmy is originally from a small town in Maine and has fully adopted the west coast lifestyle, especially a love for creativity and the outdoors. Outside of the therapy room, she can be found practicing yoga, singing karaoke, reading poetry, hiking, or working on her latest DIY craft project. She is intuitive, creative, receptive, and loves to learn new things.

Emmy is accepting clients of all ages for telehealth and in-person sessions with clients in California.
